The Digital Jewels CARES Scholarship is a Nigerian STEM scholarship run by Digital Jewels Africa, an IT governance, risk and compliance consultancy. Its purpose is narrow and practical: to keep financially squeezed but academically strong technology undergraduates in school, and then to pull them into the industry once they graduate.
Recipients receive full coverage of their university tuition through to graduation, along with a cash award of N200,000 each year to absorb the costs that tuition alone never covers. The less quantifiable half of the award may matter more over a career. Scholars are given mentorship, exposure to leading IT governance and cybersecurity practitioners, and prioritised placement at Digital Jewels' Lagos and Abuja offices, which converts the scholarship into a route into professional work rather than simply a subsidy.
The eligibility window is tight. You must be a Nigerian citizen studying full-time at an accredited federal or state university, currently in 200 or 300 level, and enrolled in one of six named disciplines: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering. A CGPA of at least 3.5 out of 5.0 is the academic floor, and financial need must be demonstrated.
Selection runs in stages. After the written application comes an online aptitude assessment, then shortlisting on performance, then a panel interview, and finally award notification and onboarding. The written essay carries real weight: applicants choose one of three prompts covering AI and deepfakes in IT security, technology literacy, or the career consequences of a digital footprint, and have 500 words to make an impression.
Applications close on 17 August 2026 and are submitted through the Digital Jewels application portal, with the essay and supporting documents uploaded as PDFs.
