What Fudan University Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) – University Programme actually covers.
Fudan University, one of China's most renowned and internationally respected institutions, offers places through the Chinese Government Scholarship administered by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) — specifically the Chinese University Programme track — enabling outstanding international students from all countries, including all African nations, to pursue fully funded undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees in Shanghai, China.
Founded in 1905, Fudan consistently ranks among China's top three universities and within the global top 50, with particular strengths in medicine, social sciences, economics, law, international relations, and the natural sciences. For African students, Fudan's School of International Relations and Public Affairs, School of Economics, and School of Public Health are of particular relevance given their applied focus on issues of global governance, trade policy, development economics, and public health systems — all deeply pertinent to Africa's rapidly evolving development landscape.
Under the CSC University Programme, Fudan nominates a set number of scholarship places each academic year. These scholarships provide full tuition coverage, on-campus accommodation or a housing allowance, a monthly living stipend of CNY 2,500 (undergraduate), CNY 3,000 (master's), or CNY 3,500 (doctoral), comprehensive health insurance, and a one-time settling-in allowance. The scholarship is renewable annually, contingent on satisfactory academic performance.
The application period for the CSC University Programme at Fudan opens in October and closes in December each year for the following academic year's intake. African applicants apply through Fudan's International Student Office online system, selecting the CSC University Programme as the funding type. A strong personal statement, compelling research proposal for PhD applicants, and two academic reference letters are essential components of a competitive application.
