What Graduate Institute Geneva Africa and Middle East Scholarship actually covers.
The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva (Institut de hautes études internationales et du développement — IHEID) offers dedicated scholarship funding for African students at both master's and doctoral levels in all programmes taught at the Institute. The Graduate Institute is a world-leading institution for international relations, development studies, global governance, international economics, international law, and anthropology — disciplines with profound relevance to Africa's development trajectory and international engagement. Partial scholarships of CHF 10,000 per year and full scholarships of CHF 20,000 per year are available, alongside tuition fee reductions and additional stipend support. Applications for financial aid are submitted simultaneously with the master's programme application through the Graduate Institute's online portal. The institution sits in the heart of Geneva, surrounded by the UN, WTO, WHO, ILO, Red Cross, and hundreds of international NGOs — a unique environment that provides African scholars with unmatched networking, internship, and career opportunities in global governance and diplomacy. African students from across the continent — covering Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and many more — have historically received this award. Financial aid is assessed on both merit and need, and strong academic records from any accredited African university are considered. This scholarship positions recipients to become future leaders in African and global diplomacy.
