The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University in Uganda provides fully funded scholarships to talented young Africans facing social and economic barriers, enabling them to access quality undergraduate and graduate education at one of East Africa's leading universities. Makerere University is Uganda's oldest and most prestigious institution of higher learning, with strong programmes in agriculture, medicine, engineering, social sciences, arts, and management. The partnership between Makerere and the Mastercard Foundation was renewed for a second phase running through 2034, demonstrating the long-term commitment to transformative education in the region. The scholarship covers full tuition, accommodation, meals, stipends, health insurance, mentoring, and leadership development activities. Scholars participate in community service and are supported to become leaders who give back to their communities. The programme aims to develop a new generation of academically excellent, socially conscious, and professionally skilled graduates who will drive Uganda's and Africa's development agenda.
