What POSTECH Graduate Assistantship for International Students actually covers.
Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) is South Korea's most research-intensive university, consistently ranked in the global top 100 for science and engineering, and is renowned for its exceptional faculty-to-student ratio and cutting-edge research infrastructure. As part of a landmark push to internationalise its graduate programmes, POSTECH launched a dedicated international admissions track beginning with the Fall 2026 intake, opening its Master's and PhD programmes fully to students from all countries — including all African nations.
All international graduate students admitted to POSTECH receive the Graduate Assistantship, which is a comprehensive funding package that covers full tuition and provides a monthly living allowance to support research and academic work. The assistantship is offered to both master's and doctoral students and is renewable for the normative period of study, subject to maintaining satisfactory academic and research progress. POSTECH also provides a Settlement Allowance for new international students who have not lived in Korea within the six months before admission, along with a partial airfare subsidy.
POSTECH's research strengths lie primarily in material science, chemical engineering, life sciences, mechanical engineering, computer science and artificial intelligence, and industrial engineering — fields of growing strategic importance to African economies. The university operates with a unique honour system and culture of academic integrity, and international students are immersed in a close-knit research community that fosters deep collaboration between students and faculty.
For African applicants with strong STEM backgrounds at the undergraduate level, POSTECH's Fall 2026 international admission round offers an unprecedented opportunity to join a world-class Korean university that is actively building its international graduate community from the ground up. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis with key deadlines in the spring and summer of 2026.
