What Princeton University Undergraduate Financial Aid for International Students actually covers.
Princeton University has one of the most generous and equitable financial aid programs for international undergraduate students of any research university in the world. Princeton meets 100% of demonstrated financial need for every admitted student — domestic or international — with no loans included in any financial aid package. This loan-free policy, combined with Princeton's no-work-requirement for students receiving aid, is unique among American universities. For African students, this means that admission to Princeton is genuinely synonymous with a fully funded education for those with demonstrated need. Princeton has a long-standing tradition of engaging with Africa through its School of Public and International Affairs (formerly Woodrow Wilson School), African Studies program, and partnerships with African institutions. Notable alumni from Africa include leaders across multiple fields. The university's residential college system, strong mentorship culture, and extraordinary research and career resources make the undergraduate experience exceptional. Princeton uses the CSS Profile and a supplemental form to assess financial need for international applicants. Aid is awarded at the time of admission and revised annually based on updated family financial documentation. For African students from lower- and middle-income families, the demonstrated-need model can result in aid packages that cover the full cost of attendance, including tuition, room, board, and personal expenses. Students are encouraged to apply Early Action (early November) or Regular Decision (January 1) and to submit financial aid materials simultaneously.
