What Schwarzman Scholars Program at Tsinghua University actually covers.
The Schwarzman Scholars Programme is a prestigious fully funded Master's scholarship at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, designed to prepare the next generation of global leaders for a world in which China plays a central role. Up to 200 scholars are selected annually from around the world, with about 35% drawn from countries outside the US and China — including Africa. The programme provides a fully funded one-year Master of Global Affairs degree covering tuition, accommodation, meals, travel, in-country excursions, and leadership activities. African applicants have been consistently represented in Schwarzman classes, bringing diverse perspectives on global leadership challenges. The programme emphasises leadership development, with scholars participating in high-level trips across China, mentorship from world leaders, and an extensive global alumni network. The application process is holistic and highly competitive, evaluating leadership potential, intellectual capacity, strength of character, and the ability to anticipate and act on emerging opportunities. Applications for the Class of 2027-28 open in spring 2026 with a September 2026 deadline.
