What University of Copenhagen Danish Government Scholarship actually covers.
The University of Copenhagen administers a limited number of Danish Government Scholarships each year, funded by the Danish state for exceptional non-EU/EEA/Swiss students admitted to full-degree master's programmes at the university. As Denmark's largest and highest-ranked university — placed consistently in the global top 100 — the University of Copenhagen attracts scholars from across the world, and African applicants are among the eligible pool. Awards may take the form of a full or partial tuition fee waiver, and in some cases include a grant to support basic living expenses in Copenhagen. The scholarship is awarded solely on the basis of academic excellence: financial need is not a selection criterion, and there is no separate application process. All eligible non-EU/EEA applicants are automatically assessed for scholarship consideration when they apply for admission to a master's programme at the university. Programmes in science, health, social sciences, humanities, law, and theology are all eligible. Copenhagen is among Europe's most expensive cities, so the tuition waiver represents significant financial relief. The University of Copenhagen's research environment is world-class — it has produced more Nobel laureates per capita than almost any other institution, and its international campus culture makes it particularly welcoming for African students. Deadlines for master's applications (and automatic scholarship consideration) are typically 15 January for programmes starting the following September. Students should note that award numbers are limited and competition is intense.
