The Wellcome Trust-funded Global Health Research in Africa Doctoral Training Programme provides fully funded PhD fellowships for early career healthcare professionals from Africa committed to improving health and wellbeing on the continent. The programme funds up to 5 PhD fellowships per year for 5 years (2022-2027), totalling 25 fellowships. Fellows are based in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ethiopia, The Gambia, or Uganda and are affiliated with African partner institutions. Fellows have the choice of registering for their PhD in their home country or at one of the UK partner institutions (including LSHTM and King's College London). The fellowship provides a comprehensive package of support including stipend, research costs, training, mentoring, and academic supervision from both African and UK universities. The programme aims to build a critical mass of research-active African health professionals who can lead health research in their countries, strengthening Africa's research capacity for long-term pandemic preparedness and health system strengthening.
