What Carleton University President's Welcome Award for International Students actually covers.
Carleton University's President's Welcome Award for International Students is an automatic entrance scholarship designed to recognise and financially support exceptional international undergraduate applicants. The award ranges from CAD 2,000 to CAD 5,000 depending on the applicant's grades at the time of admission, and is automatically considered alongside other entrance scholarships without requiring a separate application — a welcome simplification for students managing complex application processes. Carleton University, located in Ottawa — Canada's capital city — is well regarded for its programs in public affairs, journalism, engineering, computer science, and international studies. Ottawa's proximity to government and international organisations makes it a particularly valuable location for African students interested in public policy, diplomacy, international development, and governance. The President's Welcome Award is available exclusively to international students entering directly from high school and paying international student fees, and it applies from the September intake cycle. Beyond this initial award, Carleton's broader entrance scholarship program provides automatic renewable scholarships ranging from CAD 1,000 to CAD 16,000 over four years for all admitted students with an admissions average of 80% or higher. African students who have performed well in their secondary school systems — whether using the WASSCE, KCSE, Matric, Baccalauréat, or other recognised qualification systems — are eligible to be considered for the full suite of Carleton entrance scholarships and should apply before the June 15 deadline for full consideration.
