What Kaohsiung Medical University Scholarship 2026 actually covers.
Kaohsiung Medical University is one of Taiwan's foremost medical institutions, and its international scholarship is a fully funded route into postgraduate medical and health sciences study for African students, a field where fully funded places are scarce and fiercely contested.
The award covers the full cost of attendance rather than tuition alone. Recipients receive a complete tuition waiver, a monthly living stipend, on-campus accommodation and health insurance, and the funding runs for the duration of the degree rather than for a single renewable year. For a master's or doctoral candidate from Africa, that combination removes both the fee barrier and the cost-of-living barrier that usually make Taiwan viable only for the self-funded.
Eligibility is broad by nationality, open to applicants from every country except China, but narrow by discipline: study must be in the medical and health sciences fields the university offers. Master's applicants need a recognised bachelor's degree, doctoral applicants a recognised master's.
The practical obstacle is documentation, and it is worth being blunt about it. Applicants must have their highest diploma and official transcripts verified by a Republic of China representative office, which takes time that applicants working to a deadline consistently fail to budget for. Alongside the verified academic records, the application requires a financial statement, proof of nationality, proof of language proficiency, a study plan written in Chinese or English, two letters of recommendation, a passport photograph, and a signed eligibility self-check and declaration form.
Selection is made on academic excellence and the quality of the submitted file. Applications are made through the KMU admission application portal and close on 12 October 2026. Anyone considering this award should begin the document verification process weeks before they intend to submit.
