What Nanyang President's Graduate Scholarship (NPGS) – NTU Singapore actually covers.
The Nanyang President's Graduate Scholarship (NPGS) is Nanyang Technological University's most prestigious doctoral scholarship, awarded to an elite cohort of exceptional graduates from any country in the world — including all African nations — who demonstrate extraordinary research potential and wish to pursue a full-time PhD at NTU, one of Asia's leading research universities and consistently ranked in the global top 15.
NTU is globally recognised for its excellence in engineering, computer science and artificial intelligence, business, earth sciences, biological sciences, and education. For African students, NPGS represents a rare opportunity to pursue doctoral research at a world-class institution in Singapore — a city-state at the crossroads of major trade and intellectual flows connecting Asia, Africa, and the wider world.
The NPGS provides a monthly stipend of SGD 3,200, full tuition fee coverage for up to four years, a one-time computer allowance of SGD 1,500, a one-time book allowance of SGD 500, and a generous conference and research travel grant to present work at international venues. Unlike many scholarships, NPGS carries no bond obligation — scholars are free to pursue careers in academia, industry, or government globally after completing their PhD.
Selection is highly competitive and based on exceptional academic credentials: applicants must have graduated with First Class Honours (or the highest distinction) at bachelor's level or demonstrated equivalent distinction in their field. Applications for the January 2027 intake are open from June 1 to July 31, 2026. African students with outstanding undergraduate records from any discipline — particularly STEM, social sciences, or interdisciplinary fields — are strongly encouraged to apply.
