What Qatar University Scholarships 2026/2027 for International Students actually covers.
Qatar University runs an annual scholarship programme aimed at attracting highly qualified students from outside Qatar, and African applicants are eligible to compete for it either through nomination by their embassy or by applying directly to the university.
The support on offer is comprehensive in a way that few Gulf awards match. Recipients are exempted from course tuition fees, given university accommodation, provided with an annual round-trip airfare ticket, and exempted from textbook and booking fees. For a student travelling from Africa, the airfare provision matters more than it first appears, since flights are one of the costs that quietly derails otherwise funded students.
The scholarships apply to undergraduate and master's study. Coverage is deliberately bounded: it extends to students pursuing a first bachelor's degree and to students transferring into Qatar University from another institution. Non-degree applicants, visiting students, and anyone already holding a bachelor's degree who wants a second one are not eligible for the academic scholarships.
Admission and the scholarship are tightly coupled. Applicants must satisfy the entry requirements of the specific college and major they are applying to, and newly admitted students must produce a final, official high school transcript. International scholarship students are expected to apply to majors taught in English as a first or second preference, which in practice defines the range of programmes realistically open to most African applicants.
Two conditions are worth internalising before applying. Continuation is not automatic: students must keep meeting the academic terms of the scholarship to retain it. And the award must be taken up in the same semester of the year in which it was granted, otherwise it is cancelled for that semester. Applications close on 16 October 2026.
